Little Mermaid Actresss Eyes Shock Viewers

Eric's looking cute though. Kind of Irish.

He should be chasing boys on the beach, not this fish-looking prairie girl.

They CGI'd out two of her four eyes.

by Anonymousreply 3March 31, 2023 3:53 AM

Is she related to flounder-faced Mac repairman and tam o'shanter aficionado John Paul Mac Isaac?

She’s from under the sea, and needs widely spaced eyes to spot predators before they eat her. An evolutionary advantage for a girl whose hobby is trawling shipwrecks for fun trinkets, while avoiding sharks.

by Anonymousreply 6March 31, 2023 3:58 AM

I thought they picked her because of that.

by Anonymousreply 8March 31, 2023 4:19 AM

Stop making fun of her eyes!

by Anonymousreply 9March 31, 2023 4:21 AM

she is a mermaid, maybe that's how it is under the sea?

by Anonymousreply 10March 31, 2023 4:22 AM

From OP’s own twitter account

by Anonymousreply 11March 31, 2023 4:22 AM

by Anonymousreply 12March 31, 2023 4:33 AM

So now there's drinking fish.

by Anonymousreply 13March 31, 2023 4:42 AM

And what’s WRONG with the positioning of her eyes!???

by Anonymousreply 15March 31, 2023 5:45 AM

She’s like the creature from the Splice movie.

by Anonymousreply 17March 31, 2023 5:56 AM

How soon before this is quickly moved to Disney Plus?

by Anonymousreply 18March 31, 2023 5:59 AM

You MONSTERS, you MANIACS!

What have you done to its EYES!?

by Anonymousreply 19March 31, 2023 5:59 AM

Y'all realize that someone just did a photoshop and shrunk her eyes, right? Like Charlie Kirk-Style:

by Anonymousreply 21March 31, 2023 6:01 AM

No, r20. Her eyes have been a topic of discussion for over a year now.

by Anonymousreply 22March 31, 2023 6:26 AM

I don’t see the problem.

by Anonymousreply 23March 31, 2023 7:13 AM

Thanks OP, for exposing your right wing Twitter troll account for us.

by Anonymousreply 24March 31, 2023 7:16 AM

She and Anya Taylor Joy look like fucking hammerhead sharks. I get that far-apart eyes look like infants that one is supposedly wired to want to take care of, but they need to fuck off with that shit when they’re also presenting them as strong women who don’t need no man. 🙄

by Anonymousreply 25March 31, 2023 7:40 AM

I’ll watch it for Jonah Hauer-King.

by Anonymousreply 27March 31, 2023 7:53 AM

Anya Taylor Joy is fugly!

This girl by contrast is goodlooking.

by Anonymousreply 28March 31, 2023 7:58 AM

R25. I actually like Anya TJ's look.

She looks infinitely better than the escaped fish lab experiment in OP's picture.

by Anonymousreply 29March 31, 2023 8:28 AM

I won't be watching this film. I don't think I could stand looking at that weird face for two hours.

by Anonymousreply 30March 31, 2023 8:57 AM

Why is Eric this short little twink when he’s supposed to be this big burly man?

by Anonymousreply 31March 31, 2023 9:04 AM

Why did they do Ariel so dirty like that? She’s one of the most iconic princesses and the casting should have been done right. Save the experimental casting for your lesser known movies like Pocahontas.

by Anonymousreply 32March 31, 2023 9:06 AM

I dare them to blind cast Pocahontas.

by Anonymousreply 33March 31, 2023 9:11 AM

Ariel is a big deal. She resurrected Disney after 50 years of not making princess movies with this whole renaissance era. She was the first princess for Gen X, Millennials, and even Gen X. She was their first introduction to Disney. She’s part of Disney’s holy trinity like how Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman are to DC. How did they go so wrong on this casting? The execs should have had strict mandates on casting such an important character.

by Anonymousreply 34March 31, 2023 9:19 AM

Oh man, think of mermaid stories re-imagined as featuring H.P. Lovecraft's Deep Ones!

by Anonymousreply 35March 31, 2023 9:38 AM

Do you think The Little Mermaid will be a huge hit or a huge bomb?

by Anonymousreply 36March 31, 2023 10:02 AM

A bomb because they’re fucking with it.

by Anonymousreply 37March 31, 2023 10:16 AM

[quote]Why is Eric this short little twink when he’s supposed to be this big burly man?

Eric is basically an 80s pretty boy archetype, he isn't burly at all. If anything he's the only coherent casting choice.

R32 R33 Disney will never make a Pocahontas live-action. They got away with it in the 1990s, but now they'd be accused of romanticizing colonization. Alan Menken already talked about that:

[quote]I don't know if we'll ever be able to do Pocahontas, I think that story is going to be difficult. With modern sensibilities, it'd be hard - you're going to offend somebody.

by Anonymousreply 40March 31, 2023 10:22 AM

[quote]I won't be watching this film. I don't think I could stand looking at that weird face for two hours.

I won't be watching it because I'm over the age of 12, male, and with no small children whose entertainment I have to oversee. But I am interested to see how it does financially. There's been so much written about the negative prerelease reaction, and then Bailey and McCarthy were trotted out for that obnoxious promotion of it during the Oscar ceremony.

by Anonymousreply 42March 31, 2023 11:14 AM

I have no issue with the race of the main actress, I just think her acting looked pretty bad in the trailer. In fact, the whole thing looked odd, but then that often happens when you turn an animated movie into a live action film.

I'll watch it, just to see what it's really like, but not till it's on Disney Plus. It's not the sort of thing I'd go to the cinema for.

I expect its name will mean it does semi decently.

Wouldn’t be shocked if it were a Matt-fatso account. Her cioccolato bianco Twitter (before it was unveiled here and she closed it) had literally exactly the same sort of alt-right memes all over it.

If we're being physically real, shouldn't her skin be translucent? Exactly, knock it off with the eyes.

by Anonymousreply 58April 1, 2023 5:16 AM

I've noticed an increased trend in celebrities with widely-spaced eyes. I suspect it's part of the transhumanist agenda and subverting the uncanny valley.

This movie is going to lose money.

[quote]She’s got such a Disney face. She’s like the epitome of girl next door cuteness.

You just that if Blue Whatever was older, mom and dad would have bought her that role.

by Anonymousreply 71April 1, 2023 5:36 PM

Halle and Chloe Bailey are both very pretty girls with beautiful singing days and I've been following them since their R&B mixtape days. Halle looks more like a Bratz doll to me though than a Disney princess. I don't care about the casting as most Disney live-action movies suck and no changing races of the heroes make them work. Who cares anyway? They make money and kids enjoy them.

Emma Watson was no Belle and I'm confused by that casting choice, way too British and pinched features for a voluptuous French beauty. Naomi Scott wasn't a bad-looking Jasmine since Jasmine actually looked Indian or Persian and dressed that way than Arab in the original.

by Anonymousreply 72April 1, 2023 5:37 PM

Blue Ivy must marry a man whose last name is League.

by Anonymousreply 73April 1, 2023 5:52 PM

R70 Nope. It's going to make a lot of money in The US and in Western countries. It will lose money in Asia, Middle East and India because they're very racist and colorist though.

by Anonymousreply 74April 1, 2023 5:59 PM

Did someone say marmalade?

by Anonymousreply 75April 1, 2023 11:35 PM

R74, I haven't heard any clamor to see this from anywhere. I don't think it is going to get any good word of mouth, either, judging from the reception of the trailer so far. Why do you think it's going to make so much money?

by Anonymousreply 76April 2, 2023 7:28 PM

[quote][R70] Nope. It's going to make a lot of money in The US and in Western countries.

How? Even if it did make money, they left a LOT of money on the table with this casting. If it makes $100 million, it would have made $300 million with an Ariel that looks exactly like the cartoon. Disney can spin it any way they want but they’re losing potential money on this.

by Anonymousreply 77April 2, 2023 8:34 PM

She's ugly. If they wanted to cast a black actress, there are dozens more attractive than her.

by Anonymousreply 79April 6, 2023 11:44 PM

I know it’s a fantastical creature who lives under the sea but still, why would a mermaid need melanin? 🤔

by Anonymousreply 80April 7, 2023 12:10 AM

The way I see it, Disney has spent millions on branding Ariel as a red-head with pale skin. Then they went against their own extremely effective branding and can't figure out why they got a negative reaction.

To me, the obvious thing would be to come up with fresh characters and a fresh storyline. It ain't that impossible. They did it with Moana and no one has a problem with Moana. No one has a problem with the multi-racial Encanto. What people don't like is the color-washing because, whether intentional or not, it's telling people that there was something wrong with the original character design and it needs to be updated. That's not really a good message. Better to expand than replace. People resent it when a character to whom they've grown attached is altered for non-creative reasons--in this case, it's Disney looking at demographic trends and holding on to copyrights.

As for the actress' eyes--she's cute, but she's not photogenic. She looks odd on film. Makes me think of how the girl playing Maria in the West Side Story remake was pretty, but looks odd on camera. It's funny how some people's faces work on camera and other's don't.

by Anonymousreply 81April 7, 2023 1:07 AM

R81 That Maria chick is next up as Disney’s Snow White because that makes sense.

by Anonymousreply 82April 7, 2023 6:07 AM

It’s a fantasy. It doesn’t have to make sense. She can be Snow Brown and the ability to fly if she wants.

by Anonymousreply 83April 7, 2023 7:44 AM

R83 Um, it’s right there IN THE TITLE.

by Anonymousreply 84April 7, 2023 7:47 AM

God the Bailey bitches are ugly. They belong in HIV commercials.

by Anonymousreply 85April 7, 2023 7:48 AM

So what? Titles change. Get with the times. It’s not Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs anymore.

by Anonymousreply 86April 7, 2023 7:50 AM

So Snow White with skin as white as snow as per the original story actually matters not a jot. So why even bother making Snow White?

by Anonymousreply 87April 7, 2023 7:53 AM
